Doodle Drawing Ideas

Simple and Creative Doodles to Draw

About

Doodle Drawing Ideas is a free collection of simple doodles that anyone can draw with a pen. The ideas are meant for notebook margins, planner pages, handmade cards and spare minutes. They are small, casual drawings, and you do not need any drawing experience to try them.

What the site covers

The ideas are sorted into eight groups:

  • Easy Doodles: everyday objects, small icons and ideas for the moments when you do not know what to draw.
  • Nature Doodles: leaves, weather symbols, stars, moons, cacti and potted plants.
  • Flower Doodles: small flowers, step-by-step blooms and a simple wreath.
  • Animal Doodles: cats, dogs, birds, bees, butterflies and other friendly animals made from round shapes.
  • Food Doodles: fruit, snacks, coffee cups and teapots.
  • Pattern Doodles: borders, dividers, geometric fills and repeating patterns for decorating a page.
  • Doodle Techniques: pens and paper, line practice, basic shapes and the small choices that make a doodle look cute.
  • Seasonal Doodles: ideas for fall, winter and the holidays, spring and summer.

If you are starting from zero, read How to Doodle first, then Doodle Pens and Paper and Basic Doodle Shapes. After that, Easy Doodles for Beginners gives you plenty to draw. Every idea is listed on the Tutorials page.

How the ideas are written

Every doodle is described stroke by stroke, starting from basic shapes: a circle, an oval, a square, a triangle, a straight line or a curve. The text tells you which shape to draw first, what to add next and where each line begins and ends, so you can follow along even without looking at the picture.

This is casual doodling, not a course of formal drawing lessons. There is no perspective, anatomy or shading theory here, and there is no right or wrong result. Pens and paper are described by type, such as a fineliner, a gel pen or a pencil for guide lines, and not by brand, so you can use whatever is already on your desk.

About the pictures

The pictures on this site are original illustrations drawn for the site. They show the doodles and the order of the strokes. They are drawings, not photographs of a reader’s page, and your own version will look a little different from ours. That is how doodles are supposed to work.

Generic, original designs

The designs are generic and original. A cat here is simply a cat, and a cup is simply a cup. The site does not use existing characters, mascots or logos, and no tutorial shows you how to copy one.

Nothing to download or print

Everything you need is on the page. There are no templates, worksheets or printable sheets to download, nothing to buy and no account to create. A pen and any piece of paper are enough.

What you can rely on

  • We do not publish invented reviews, ratings or testimonials.
  • Time estimates are approximate. How long a page of doodles takes depends on your pen, your pace and how many variations you try.
  • We make no health or learning claims about doodling. It is presented here as an enjoyable pastime and nothing more.
